How to Defeat Julius
Julius is the final secret boss found in Traverse Town's Fountain Square after completing the main story. As such, he is quite difficult and requires perfect timing and knowledge of his attack patterns, especially on harder difficulties.
The secret to defeating him is to stock up on Balloon spells (Balloonra, Balloonga too) and lure him into them, as depicted in this video from youtube user JRPG2020

You may also defeat Julius at even a low level like 40 by simply stocking up on high-damaging magic commands. Make sure that your deck is suited up with several firaga's (Dark Firaga for Riku if possible) and Blizzagas. It is also wise to have a Balloonga and two Curaga's, because Julius can prevent you from using some commands, and having an extra healing command is vital just in case. Also, bring along spirits that give you any sort of magic boosts, such as magic boost, fire boost and ice boost.
The key is to dodge Julius's attacks and then follow with a magic command, such as Firaga, Balloonga or Blizzaga. Simply wait for him to miss you, and then fire one or two magic attacks at him for some damage. The following are Julius's attacks and how to counter them.
. Julius will clash his fists together. When this happens, he will immediately follow with a fist-punching combo. It is on this one attack, that you should do a well-timed guard (or barrier) then follow with a counter attack. This may temporarily stun Julius, but most importantly it will protect from this attack that is otherwise hard to dodge.
. Julius will perform a simple hand slam onto the ground or fist punch. Simply dodge roll (or dark roll) out of the way and follow with a magic command if you feel you are a safe distance away.
. Julius will perform an uppercut. This attack is easily dodged, but if he gets you, he WILL perform a second uppercut. It is possible to dodge the second one with an air dash, but the timing is difficult. After he gets you with the second uppercut, he will finish it off with any of his attacks that involve slamming you to the ground. Luckily, after this combo, he will let his guard down allowing you to heal or attack.
. Julius will jump into the air and slam onto the ground. The minute he jumps, dodge roll out of the way so that he misses his slam, and then follow with one or two magic commands at range.
. Julius will jump onto the tallest building and then jump off of it, landing on his butt and sliding across the arena. This attack is triggered if you move to far up. This does massive damage. Immediately run to the nearest wall to flowmotion yourself out of the way or spam dark roll as riku to dodge it.
. Julius will attempt to charge right into you. This is easy to dodge, and you should follow up with a magic command after he misses.
Julius will swipe at you in an attempt to grab. If he lands the first swipe, he will grab you and breath a toxic odor, inflicting one of three status effects: Confusion, Poison, or Blind. Julius then throws you back down. The status effect will disperse over time, but there is a slight chance it will chain over into one of the other two status effects after wearing off. This never happens more than once.
. Finally, Julius will imbue himself with electricity. Once he does this, spam guard at first to block the lightning strikes and then dodge like crazy. His attacks are amplified in both power and range. One attack that can easily jeapordize your chances is his building dive. Instead of using it only when you are a certain distance off the ground, Julius will use it randomly. If you get hit by this attack, not only will it put you near death, whatever command you have selected will be unusable for a period of time. It is best to dodge this attack with flowmotion. You can slip in some magic commands if you feel confident, but otherwise, just dodge until he is out of this mode and back to normal.
Keep in mind that the magic will not do significant damage, but it is possible to beat him with simple Firaga's and Blizzagas at level 40. It is much easier for Riku with is dark roll ability since it allows him to dodge and then follow up with magic easier.
